CASE STUDY

Woolsey Wildfire - November 8, 2018

In 2018, California suffered the largest amount of burned acreage ever recorded in a fire season. With over $3.5 billion (2018 USD) in damages, Cal Fire alone spent $432 million on operations. In November 2018, the Woolsey Fire and the Camp Fire ignited on the same day claiming at least 89 human lives, destroying more than 18,000 structures—the latter annihilating the entire town of Paradise and garnering the sad distinction of being California’s most destructive and deadly wildfire on record.

The Woolsey Fire burned approximately 97,000 acres across Los Angeles and Ventura
Counties, prompting the evacuation of more than 295,000 people. Fueled by Santa Ana winds, it powered through the canyons, reaching famous movie and television sets, celebrity homes, small ranches and residential estates across the Malibu area.

Thousands of residents were kept away from their homes for many days, continued to threaten communities. Over time evacuees were incrementally allowed to return to discover the extent of damage and begin the process of recovery.

SRP sent teams of experienced fire recovery professionals to the region to assist private clients and estate property owners as they picked up the pieces of their lives. Among many services, our drone pilots provided aerial surveys and interior forensic videography, creating valuable visual reports to help document the extent of fire damage. Meanwhile, our team of structural experts, hygienists and estimators inspected buildings, assessing fire and smoke damage, testing for contaminants and preparing certified remediation plans from which our clients could begin repairs.

Evacuees were incrementally allowed to return home.

Private client needs

Many of our clients in this region require responders to provide advanced security measures to protect their privacy, and guard the safety of their families and property. As seasoned professionals with a history of private client service, SRP thoroughly screens all of our employees and network partners, ensuring all recovery support team members meet or exceed client security needs.

SRP continues to support local communities

As they move forward in repairing and rebuilding. Our crews remain on location working dutifully to help clients navigate the long, complex recovery process from these devastating fires. We remain committed to their full and successful recovery, working to ensure each receives complete indemnification for their losses and that all are able to bounce back stronger than ever.
